An athlete in three arenas - Lars Hvidberg elevates communication across authorities, civil society and foundations

When the issues are wicked, the language must be sharp. That's why INVI hired Lars Hvidberg as Senior Communications Advisor. He will make the complex understandable, build communication formats that can be used in practice, and help turn ideas into action.

"In my years working in the political world, I've seen that the system is finding it harder and harder to translate political goals into real change. Everything is moving faster, crises are becoming more frequent, and top-down management is often an automatic reaction for politicians. This damages the open democracy and participatory solutions that Denmark is built on. That's why I'm excited to be part of INVI, which both analyzes the problems and points to concrete solutions that make a real difference," says Lars Hvidberg.

At INVI, communication is a tool for change. When we bring together municipalities, ministries, foundations and civil society, we need to be able to show what works and what doesn't. Lars brings strong editorial skills from years of working with speeches, press, formats and narrative journalism. The goal is simple: Knowledge must be usable in everyday life, and experiences must be fed back to those who are in charge.

Lars agrees: "INVI tackles big and abstract topics, many stakeholders and the limitations of everyday life. My role will be to help make the solutions concrete and intimate and to tell the stories that give hope and drive."

Lars has extensive experience from Slotsholmen, the think tank Justitia and as an independent advisor. He has written more than 1,000 speeches for five different culture ministers and has been responsible for communication and press in major initiatives for, among others, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, where he also collaborated with the Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. He has also published two journalistic books: "Courage to Doubt" from 2018 and "The Virus Detective" from 2021 about Thea Kølsen Fischer's work to trace COVID-19 back to its source in China. Lars holds an MA. in Film Studies and Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen and holds an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, New York.

The appointment of Lars gives INVI a clear editorial voice. Methods and data will be tied closer to clear narratives so that results can be shared and used. Communication becomes part of the methodology, not something that comes at the end.

"We need to be precise about the problems and even more precise about the solutions. That's how we move things," Lars Hvidberg concludes.
